Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.

Know the line has held, your job is done.

Rest easy, sleep well.

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. Isn't he a wonderful guy? Also, most years, groups of Maine school kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. What makes this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

Please share this with everyone. You hear too much about the bad things people do. Everyone should hear about this.

What A Difference 10 Years Makes

I realized last night that it has been 10 years since I walked out of my father's home to begin my adult life. I left for so many different and some silly reasons but in my defense I was 18 and not thinking with my brain that day. I remember packing my car with the important things; clothes, make-up, t.v., and stereo. Did I know where I was going? Not in my wildest dreams did I know where I was going but I knew that it pointed in the direction of freedom, well at least I hoped it did. I ended up staying with friends for a few weeks and then getting my own apartment. I worked two jobs while trying to go to school and just two months later I was dropping out of high school because something had to give and my pride was too much to go back home. I didn't even plan on being gone that long because I stated that in the letter I left my father but being out of that house was freeing to me. It was hard journey, shortly after leaving my senior year I got married and went down a very hard and trying path for the next 10 years. Now I have a wonderful 7 year old and I know what it means to dig your heels in and fight like hell for what you want and believe in. I finally got my GED in 2004 and then my Associates in May of this year. You see though I lost my passion the past few months and forgot who I was in life. I went back to college this fall even though I knew in my heart I didn't want to and now I am feeling the same way I did when I dropped out of high school, overwhelmed. I know leaving now will mess things up to where I will have to do some finagling if I would ever decide to go back. At this point I feel as if I am satisfied just having my associates and working the job I have because in time it could leave to bigger and better things. I really haven't worked like I should this semester and completing with passing grades at this point would be a miracle. I know I alone have to make this decision and be happy with the decision I make. But I think it's a sign when I feel relived when just thinking of walking away from school and just focusing on work and M. I want to know who I am again and not who I am trying to be to please people. I got the education I needed to at least give M a good life not over the top but better than what it was. I look back over the past decade and I want to know who I am again and what makes me happy and what my passion in life is again.

Middle Name Game

I've been tagged...thanks Kell! LOL

The rules:

  • You have to post these rules before you give the facts.
  • Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name.
  • If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.
  • When you are tagged you need to write your own blog-post containing your own middle name game facts.
  • At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag.
  • Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
My middle name is Autumn.

A ccounts Payable is what I do each day
U I have drawn a blank
T is for the town that I live in
U I have drawn a blank
Malachi the name of my son
New Richmond the town I went to high school

I have tagged Big Mama because she makes me laugh each day, Boo Mama because what would my day be without her blog to read, Tanya because I am sure she has an interesting middle name, Deirdre because she just rocks, Vicki because she needs to join in on the fun, and Margaret because she made want a Pumpkin Spiced Lattes the other day.

Menu Plan Monday

A day late but yesterday was super busy. I am also including the link of where to find the receipe for the bread and the muffins that I made the other day and posted about. Also if you do make the bread or muffins I recommened a little more water than what they call for the muffins can come out too dry if you don't and the bread sometimes soaks up the water to quickly before you have it completely mixed.

Monday - Tequilla Lime Steak with Seasoned Broccoli and Carrots

Tuesday - Spaghetti with Homemade Garlic Bread (I am using a few slices from the bread I made)

Wednesday - Lasagna Hamburger Helper

Thursday - Better The Second Time Around Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes

Friday - Hamburger Pizza with Corn

Saturday - Cheesy Baked Potato Hamburger Helper with Asparagus

Sunday - Better The Second Time Around Barbecued Chicken with Baked Beans

Bread (It's on page 15, you make the mix and then use it for the various recipes listed, I even used it for the Blueberry Muffins instead of the all white flour mix that is listed on page 13. Also I put the blueberries on top of the muffins instead of in the batter once they were in the muffin pan ready to go into the oven.)

Blueberries and Bread

I finally found an excellent recipe for wheat bread that doesn't require yeast. I made a loaf Friday and it was big hit between M and me. I made another loaf this morning for sandwiches this week. I also made Blueberry Muffins for M this morning and he loved them. I might finally get this homemade cooking down pat.

What A Great Find!

I belong to my local freecycle group and I responded to an ad that someone was giving away craft items which included three gift baskets but everything else was a mystery. Well I got the bag home and started going through it and what a haul! Not only did I get the baskets but I also got fabric, ribbons, items to do floral arrangements(wires and such), stencils, stamps, stickers, batting, jewelry making items, and other odds and ends. The greatest find was a frame picture that is cross stitch for a place to put school pictures from grades 1 through 12! I have been looking for something similar but this is so much better and cuter. Plus with my cross stitching passion it fits me perfectly. One mans junk is another mans treasure

Menu Plan Monday

Tuesday - Beans and Rice with Cornbread

Wednesday - Impossible Cheeseburger Pie

Thursday - Better The Second Time Around Broccoli Cheese Soup

Friday - Spaghetti with Pesto and Sweet Peas

Saturday - Better The Second Time Around Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes

Sunday - Barbecued Chicken and Baked Beans

Dessert - Devil's Food Bundt Cake

Saturday, July 14, 2007

Chocolate Bundt Cake

I made the dessert for the week tonight and I just had to share a picture. It turned out so well and very delicious. M gave it two thumbs up! It is from a mix but I used the new Pillsbury Reduced Sugar Devil's Food Mix to see what it taste like and I can't tell the difference but I use Splenda in my coffee and also drink diet drinks. I even frosted it, even though I normally don't but I had leftover frosting from my trial run of cupcakes last week in preparation for M's birthday party next month. Not the best frosting job but it sure is yummy! It's hard resisting having another piece because that's how great it tastes.

What A Great Idea!

I was on Organizing Junkies site and saw this post, I was inspired so much that I got the needed materials and starting attacking my stacks of Martha Stewart Magazines. I finally put the reciepes I liked into my reciepe binder and started my own Good Things binder full of hints, decorating ideas, things to buy, and things to make, its not very full but through time and magazine buying I am sure my Good Things will be bursting at the seams with ideas and dreams. A lot of what came out of the magazines went into my reciepe binder and I am so excited to have new cooking ideas. Here is just a sampling of what I have put into my reciepe and Good Things binder.

I would love to have this bathtub someday

Now that's my kind of bookshelf!

Who would have thought of turning a plate into a clock?

A Glossary of Crystal

How to set a table

Who wouldn't a piece of that?

M would just love this cake considering his passion for penguins.

Spaghetti Casserole

Another recipe from the wonderful Dinner Doctor book, definitely worth the money to buy it.

1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 lb Ground Beef
1/2 Cup Chopped Onion (I use frozen to speed the process)
1 can (10.75 oz) cream of mushroom soup (I use cream of celery)
1 1/2 cups of favorite tomato based pasta sauce
1 cup shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
4 Cups Cooked Spaghetti (8 oz uncooked)
2 Tablespoons Shredded Parmesan Cheese

Preheat the oven to 400 F

Place the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Crumble in the ground beef and add the onion and garlic. Cook, stirring and breaking up the lumps of meat, until the beef is brown all over and cooked through, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat and transfer the beef to a large mixing bowl. (If there is a lot of fat in the pan, drain the mixture in a strainer before transferring it). Add the soup, pasta sauce, 1/2 of the Cheddar Cheese, the cooked spaghetti, and 1/2 cup of water and stir to mix. Transfer the spaghetti to a 3 quart baking dish and sprinkle all but 1 tablespoon of the remaining Cheddar Cheese and 1 tablespoon of the Parmesan over the top.

Bake the spaghetti until it bubbles throughout and the cheese has melted, 18 to 20 minutes. Sprinkle the remaining tablespoon of each cheese and serve at once.

Serves 8

Serve this along with a salad and some garlic bread for a wonderful easy meal.

Tequila Lime Steak

Tequila Lime Steak

Any steak of your preference. ( I am using Bottom Round Steak)
1 Bottle of Kroger Brand Tequila Lime Marinade

Marinate the steak for at least 30 minutes, I did it all day to really soak up the flavor. With it just being me I have one steak and enough marinate to cover the steak saving the rest for another meal.

Once marinated to your liking grill to perfection. I use a George Foreman Grill and it only takes me no more than 8 minutes for medium rare if I let it heat up long enough.

The vegetables are Green Giants Steamed Seasoned Broccoli and Carrots. Such a simple meal when you are in a hurry or just want a tasty meal.

Sunday - Caribbean Jerk Chicken with Rice

The Things I Do For My Son

I made Peanut Butter cookies the other day with my son and instead of doing them the normal roll and flatten I did almost 2 dozen in the shapes of Marine animals thanks to the new cookie cutters I got over the weekend. It was a long tedious process but worth it seeing the look of joy on his face when I was working on them. The other dozen was made the normal way for me since he will take his home to his dad's to share. Of course now everything that can be made into shape, is. Waffles and PB and J's have all been turned into sharks, sea otters, etc. Here is a pick of three of the cookies that I took.

Jen's Square

I finished this Saturday for an exchange I am taking part in. I did this using her theme of Girl Guides and using words from a list she gave and using DMC threads in the colors she mentioned. It was stitched on 28ct Monoco Slate from Enchanted Fabrics.

It's Graduation Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't believe this day is finally here but it is and I can say is wow. This day means so much to me because I am doing something society says is hard to do. I was a high school drop out who went back for her GED in 2004 and now 3 years later to almost the day I recieved it I am getting my Associates degree in Business Administration. I have been told that I couldn't do it, that I was worthless, and so many other things by none other than my own father but today he can't and wont' take this moment away from me. I walk tonight and my son will be there to see his mom wear the "funny hat" and realize anything is possible if you just believe in it. The other day he asked if he could go to college someday and I said it would be an honor for me to see him go but it's not about what I want its about what he wants. I just wish my own father could have learned that lesson a long time ago. I will back later to post a picture of me in all my glory for today I celebrate its graduation day.

What Can Happen In A Year

What can happen in one year? Well a lot apperently after the year I have had. A year ago today my marriage or whatever you want to call it was ended for good and at that time I swore I would never make it but not only did I make it, I thrived and grew stronger. I look in the mirror and don't recognize the woman that stands before me. If the girl a year ago would appear I would tell her to have faith, it's going to be ok. I not only was able to manage to pay the bills but I now have a car that is in my name and so much more. I was able to give my son a great Christmas that he will remember forever not for the amount of presents but for the tree and decorations I was able to purchase and display that when he saw them his eyes would light up. I am 4 days away from obtaining my associates and moving to Houston. I also realized that my marriage wasn't meant to be and even though I lost a husband, I got a best friend out of the deal. I don't live with the constant fights anymore and now I can talk to him without grinding my teeth and wishing he would just disappear. Sometimes we don't know whats best for us until its presented to us. A year ago if you would have told me my marriage ending was the best thing for me I would have told you, you were nuts but now a year later it was the best thing for me. I remember a year ago feeling that my heart was being ripped out but thanks to great friends it is slowly being put together and I know a year from now I will be an even better person than I am today.

Broccoli Cheese Soup

I got this recipe from The Dinner Doctor, it looks quite easy and yummy. I will let you know how it turns out tonight.

Broccoli Cheese Soup

1 Package (10oz) Frozen Chopped Broccoli
1 Can Chicken Soup w/ Rice
1 1/4 Cups Low Sodium Chicken Broth
4oz Velveeta Cheese Cubed or American Cheese Shredded

1. Place the broccoli in 2-quart saucepan and add water to cover by 1 inch. Place the pan over medium-high heat, cover it, and bring to a boil. Let the broccoli boil 1 minute, then remove the pan and drain off the water.

2. Add the chicken soup and broth to the pan with broccoli. Place the pan back over medium-high heat and bring to a boil, stirring, about 2 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and puree the soup in a food processor or in a blender in batches. Return the pureed soup to the pan. Stir in the cheese, then place the pan over medium heat until the cheese melts, 3 to 4 minutes longer.

3. Ladle into serving dishes and enjoy.

*You can skip step one if you like your broccoli crispy and can start with step two

Mother's Bliss 40 Hours

After 17 hours in March I have completed 40 hours on Mother's Bliss. I just love how this is coming along and can't wait to see it completed. I may need to start thinking about my next big project after Mother's Bliss as quickly as I am moving on this. 40 hours in 3 months is pretty good for my busy schedule.

The Bakery

I completed another 9 hours on this piece for the month of March. Since starting it at the end of November last year I have completed 34 hours on it. I just love how it is moving along and it won't be too long before it's finished and hanging in my kitchen next to Chocolate Shoppe.

I worked on this piece for 13 hours for the month of March. I have completed 34 hours on it so far and once I get the bottom part done with the many different color changes I will start picking up speed on it again.

I compelted this in 26 hours and just love how it turned out. I will be framing it soon and hanging it in my kitchen. This was my first LHN and now I am definitely hooked on them.
